Description
The Social Public Art Resource Center was commissioned by the LA Petersen Automotive Museum to restore and preserve Sandra Drinning’s The Living City mural within their walls. Sandra Drinning’s The Living City, a 16-by-94-foot mural outside H&K Supermarket in Los Angeles’ Korea-town once highlighted the interconnectivity of LA’s diverse neighborhoods, while establishing a sense of place making, however, throughout the years, became heavily damaged. As the leading designer restoring the piece, I had to consider how the mural would exist in the museum environment compared to the streets of LA and how attendees would interact and engage with it. Today between 1000-4000 visitors a day get to experience the mural; The Petersen Museum sees about 4 million guests a year.
